The Obama Administration’s recently released defense strategy, Sustaining U.S. Leadership: Priorities for 21st Century Defense, recognizes the importance of space to U.S. national security and acknowledges that “space systems and their supporting infrastucture face a range of threats that may degrade, disrupt, or destroy assets.”
How this recognition translates into budgets and programs remains to be seen. It is widely interpreted as a positive indicator, but Loren Thompson offers a cautionary view.
The new budget will offer answers.
